About the Lab
The Mathematical Creativity Lab, led by Assistant Professor Ying Zhang, focuses on advancing the understanding of mathematical creativity and exploring how generative AI can support its development and assessment. The lab is currently based at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
We bring together researchers from diverse disciplines, including Mathematics, Psychology, Education, Neuroscience, and Computer Science, to foster interdisciplinary collaboration on creativity in mathematical thinking.
Our work is guided by a set of core questions:
How should mathematical creativity be conceptualized and measured?
What are the developmental trajectories of mathematical creativity across different pedagogical environments?
How can AI agents be effectively integrated into mathematics classrooms?
In what ways can AI-generated solution spaces reshape the evaluation of mathematical creativity?
What challenges arise when translating domain-general creativity frameworks into domain-specific (mathematical) contexts?
To what extent can generative AI transform students’ mathematical thinking?
